Contractor Logistics FAQ

What happens if a contractor orders a concrete mix that is unpumpable?

If the ready-mix delivery arriving on-site does not match our pumping parameters (e.g., a mix with zero sand-fines, large un-graded aggregates, or an extremely low 2-inch slump), the risk of immediate line plug is high.

In this event, our operator will halt the pour immediately. The contractor is responsible for calling the batch plant to adjust the batching or applying an approved high-range water reducer (HRWR) superplasticizer directly to the drum. Under no circumstances will our crew attempt to pump dry, stiff concrete that violates safety limits.

How are outrigger footprints determined for tight-access residential alleyways?

When staging a boom pump in a tight residential corridor (such as Jacksonville Beach or historic Springfield alleys), we must verify that the outrigger spread will not encroach on retaining walls, drainage pipelines, or soft decorative pavers.

If a full outrigger extension is not possible, we may implement ACPA-approved "short-rigging" techniques, which lock out boom rotations over the short-rigged side. This requires dedicated operator oversight and strict coordination with the site supervisor.

Do JEA power line rules apply to secondary overhead service drops?

Yes. The OSHA 1926.1408 mandate for a 10-foot radial clearance from overhead power lines applies to all energized power lines, including secondary 120/240V drop lines that feed individual residential properties.

While high-voltage main feeder lines pose the greatest arc hazard, standard drop wires carry enough current to ground-fault a boom pump if contact is made. If a boom tip must operate within 10 feet of a residential power drop, the line must be wrapped with high-visibility insulated blankets or de-energized by JEA before rigging begins.
